Towards militarization: Japan is preparing to defend the islands
The Japanese Ministry of Defense plans to purchase missiles with a range of about 500 km by March 2022, the news agency Jiji Press reports. Such missiles will be able to attack the target even outside the reach of enemy missiles. This will help Japan protect the remote islands. The new missiles will be installed on fifth-generation stealth fighters F-35 and will become missiles with the longest range in the arsenal of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. Since Japan abandoned the purchase of the Aegis Ashore missile defense system earlier this year, the government has been actively discussing the possibility of blocking attacks using ballistic missiles. Including, the admissibility of striking at enemy bases is discussed. According to the news agency, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will make a statement about his position on Japan's missile defense before leaving office on September 16.
