Minsk court ordered telegram channel to compensate riot police for moral damage
The opposition telegram channel must pay compensation to an employee of the Belarusian riot police in the amount of 2500 Belarusian rubles ($965) for defaming its publication. This decision was made by the Belarusian court, said Olga Chemodanova, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, on September 22 in her telegram channel. She explained that in July in the NEXTA telegram channel, through which protest actions are coordinated in the country, a message appeared about the riot police officer of the police department of the Minsk City Executive Committee Alexei Kovalev. A riot police officer appealed to the court for the protection of honor and dignity. It turned out that the pictures depict another man. The court of the Minsk region ruled to satisfy the claim and ruled that the administrator of the telegram channel should pay compensation to the riot police for moral damage and refute the defamatory information.
