Japan seeks to increase interest in the territorial issue
An exhibition dedicated to the Kuril Islands (northern territories, as they are called in Japan) has opened in the Sapporo City Hall, the administrative and cultural center of Hokkaido Prefecture, FNN reported. The purpose of the exhibition is to increase interest in the territorial issue. The exhibition is held as part of the campaign for the return of disputed territories, officially announced by the administration of Hokkaido prefecture on July 31, 2020. August, the month the campaign began, is considered the month of the campaign for the return of the northern territories (Kuril Islands). The exhibition, organized on the ground floor of the city hall of Sapporo, presents photographs showing life in the Kuril Islands in the first half of the twentieth century. For example, a number of photographs depict a pre-war festival. In addition, visitors to the exhibition will be able to trace the history of the development of the territorial issue. Including photos from meetings between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev with Japanese politicians. Surprisingly, the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation prohibiting squandering Russian territory almost did not moderate the fervor of our Japanese friends and partners. Why the Russian attempt to be friends is economically perceived in Japan as a willingness to give the Kuril Islands, says Anatoly Koshkin, a news agency.
