2000 Latvian schoolchildren do not have computers for remote studies
By the beginning of the second week of remote studies in Latvia, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Education Reinis Znotiš admitted that 2,000 schoolchildren are deprived of the technical opportunity to participate in the remote learning process, writes the portal LSM. To do this, they just don 't have computers with them connected to the internet. According to preliminary information from the Ministry of Education, 3% of pupils lacked computers for study at the beginning of the remote training process. That's about 5,000 students. According to Reinis Znotinsch, the Ministry granted these applications, providing schoolchildren with computers. However, during this time it was revealed that 2,000 more students do not have the technical opportunity to study remotely. So far, the issue of providing them with computers has not been resolved. From 13 March to 14 April, an emergency regime was introduced in the LR by a Government decision due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Classes in schools, sports sections have been abolished. Mass events are prohibited, which gather more than 50 people. The schedule of public transport and the rules of trade in stores have been changed. The borders of Latvia and other EU countries for passenger transport are closed. These measures have had a negative impact on the economic situation in the country.
